What Students Say...

Your coursework and insights have been deeply meaningful and very instructive. The emphasis on careful, deep listening and absence of judgment most impressed me.
~ Lila Suna, Washington, DC

Your training is one of the best trainings I have ever done. Even after serving as a nurse in the oncology community for so long, the card exercise brought me to tears. I wish everyone would want to take the course.
~ Stacey Russell, New York, NY

I LOVED the CEOLS training modules. Intense and beautiful. Please know I thanked you in my heart several times. ~ Nathan Beier, Sacramento, CA

Your work has already been a life-changing gift! It is hard to express how much I’ve appreciated it. To me, more than an end-of-life coursework, this is a LIFE course! My heart is full of joy and appreciation, and I’m confident I will carry these profound learnings with me for a long time.
~ Andrea Soares, Alexandria, VA

Meet The Founder

After spending everyday from diagnosis to death with her dear friend, Patty became a hospice volunteer, volunteer trainer and a community educator for hospices in Atlanta and Philadelphia.

She was drawn to the "heart of hospice" which is the volunteer or the non-medical caregiver, and felt that more information and training was needed to support these unsung heroes.

Patty founded Teaching Transitions, and Doing Death Differently, a hospice volunteer and staff training company that serves hospices across the US. The sister company, Doing Death Differently, now part of the Life Path Learners family, began training the emerging profession of end-of-life doulas.

Patty was one of seven founders of the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA) in 2018 which now supports over 1300 members. She was also chosen as a charter member helping to form the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's (NHPCO) End-of-Life Doula Council that offers education to NHPCO's membership as well as the general public.

Patty describes her mission as:
Transforming the experience of death, dying, grief and loss from one of only sadness, fear and overwhelm to peace, meaning, connection, and even a little bit of awe.
